Jurassic
Park 3 Prepares to Roar into Theaters
(by
digitalmediafx.com) Jurassic Park 3 is getting set to roar
into theaters on Wednesday, July 18, 2001. This third installment
in the Jurassic Park trilogy is the first to not be adapted
by a Michael Crichton book and it is the first not directed by
Steven Spielberg (Joe Johnston is the director). In addition,
while John Williams is credited with the Jurassic Park 3
soundtrack, it was actually Don Davis who did the music, with
original themes by John Williams.
There's a
new dinosaur character in Jurassic Park 3 called the Spinosaurus
(Spino for short). It is a 16 foot dinosaur whereas the T-Rex
was a 14.5 foot dinosaur.
"The
looks of these dinosaurs, the way their skin and muscles move,
and how they behave in their environment, is far more detailed
and explicit than in the first films," says Visual Effects
Supervisor Jim Mitchell who works at Industrial Light & Magic.
"The Spinosaurus dives into a lake. He has to act in water.
Some of the most dramatic real life images are the Spinosaurus
in the water."
Jurassic
Park 3 is said to contain more visual effects than the first
two films and will be quite different, and even darker, with a
new director and crew. The film is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture
Association of America.
There are
already plans for a Jurassic Park 4.

A.I. Scores
Victory in Weekend Box Office
(by digitalmediafx.com) Weekend estimates are in and A.I.
easily achieved a weekend box office victory with an estimated
$30.1 million - a nice take, but much lower than analyst predictions
of $40 - $50 million. While critics gave the movie mixed, but
mostly positive reviews, exit polls are showing mixed reviews
leaning towards negative. Many are complaining about the movies
disjointed ending.
Other visual
effects and animated movies in the top 10 include:
Dr. Doolittle
2 - $15.4 Million
Tomb Raider - $9.8 Million
Atlantis - $7.8 Million
Shrek - $7.1 Million
