Females
Give Final Fantasy Low Grade
(by digitalmediafx.com) A company called CinemaScore, which
gathers movie opinions from a large sampling of audiences that
attend movies on opening nights, has assembled the report card
for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. In general, males
gave Final Fantasy a "B" rating while females
gave the movie a very low "D" rating. The "D"
rating is amongst the worst that females have given any movie
so far this year. While the survey measures report card style
grade opinions, it fails to capture data on exactly what people
thought of the movie and how they would improve it.
How does Final
Fantasy rate against other animated movies this year?
For Disney's
Atlantis: The Lost Empire, males and females gave it an
average grade of a high A minus. For Shrek, both males
and females gave the movie a solid A. Disney's Recess: School's
Out averaged a high B plus for both males and females.

Weekend
Box Office Estimates
(by digitalmediafx.com) Weekend box office estimates are in
and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within saw one of the most
disappointing openings this year for a movie that cost over $100
million to create. According to estimates, Final Fantasy
could only manage a poor fourth place showing with an $11.5 million
take. Coming in ahead of Final Fantasy was Cats &
Dogs (in its second weekend), The Score, and Legally
Blonde. Both The Score and Legally Blonde were
playing in fewer theaters than Final Fantasy.
