Jurassic
Park 3 Has Monster Opening
(by
digitalmediafx.com) Jurassic Park 3 had the second largest
Wednesday opening ever this week, bringing in an astounding $19
million in one day. The only movie to ever have a big Wednesday
opening was Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.
Jurassic
Park 3 is expected to continue with huge numbers over the
weekend as movie fans disappointed in this summer's offerings
look for relief on the same dinosaur island featured in The Lost
World.
Also on Wednesday,
Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within saw a massive dip from
last Wednesday when it opened with $5 million. On Wednesday of
this week, the movie could only muster $793,772, a mammoth drop
off that will send the movie to an early finish.

Fox May
Share Ice Age Distribution with DreamWorks
(by digitalmediafx.com) The magazine Inside is reporting that
20th Century Fox is in negotiations with DreamWorks to share distribution
rights for next
year's animated Ice Age movie. Under the terms of the
agreement, DreamWorks would share the costs of the film and would
be given either domestic or overseas rights to the film. Studios
make such deals to lesson the up front impact of the movie. One
of the most high profile films to enter a similar agreement was
Fox's Titanic. Fox convinced Paramount Pictures to contribute
a set amount of money to the film in return for domestic distribution
rights. Titanic went on to become the highest grossing
domestic movie of all time with Paramount's logo in front of the
Fox film.
Ice Age
is being created by Blue Sky Studio and is due in theaters on
March 15, 2002.

of the Day - Filmmaker Having Fun Living an Animated Life
According
to the Journal Sentinel in an interview with David Clausen:
"Q: I
read an interview with another stop-motion animator, David Allen,
who said there is a certain paranoia that hangs over the whole
process of stop-motion animation. Could you describe the making
of stop-motion film?
A: For every
second of film there are 24 frames, that's 24 still pictures.
We take a character and we have to move him 24 times for every
second of film. We start with a puppet, it's about 12 inches tall,
and first we'll plan out what we want to happen, what the character's
feeling. We go through and practice a shot a few times, and then
I work with the animator, and when they feel confident, they do
an actual shot on film..."
