Park 3 Has Jurassic Weekend at Box Office
(by digitalmediafx.com) Jurassic Park 3 easily dominated
this weekend's box office. According to weekend estimates, the
third installment of the Jurassic Park series made $50.3
million. Since Jurassic Park 3 opened last Wednesday, that
brings its five day total to $80.9 million. It is expected to
cross the $100 million blockbuster mark by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within dropped a
massive 69% from last weekend's disappointing results. The movie
is turning into one of the most expensive animated movie disasters
at the box office ever. Costing well over $115 million, the movie
is now only expected to gross around $32.5 million domestically.
Final box
office numbers will be published in Tuesday's Digital Media FX
update.

Fox Family
to Become Disney Owned
(by digitalmediafx.com) A few months ago Disney was firing
staff left and right in an attempt to create more cash flow for
the company. Now Disney is spending over $3 billion to purchase
Fox Family Worldwide, a company with a debt of $2 billion. The
biggest asset Disney gets from the deal is the Fox Family Channel.
Although the channel has suffered in ratings, it has a large distribution
and long-term cable contracts that made it appealing to many companies.

Marvel
Comic Characters Coming to Billiard Games
(by digitalmediafx.com) Marvel comic characters like Spider
Man and the X-Men will soon be coming to gaming products like
billiard cues, tables and accessories, along with dart and table
games, casino products, and game room furniture and decor. The
line of products will be distributed, beginning this fall, through
Dufferin Games' stores thanks to an agreement reached between
Dufferin and Marvel Enterprises, Inc. The agreement spans all
Marvel owned characters.
"We are
very excited about introducing Marvel's comic book legends into
Dufferin Games' product offering," says Claude Church, CEO
of Dufferin Games. "The Marvel brand is the perfect complement
to Dufferin Games' product offering, with a fun, trendy range
of merchandise that will create new excitement and awareness of
billiards among the teen and college-age consumer demographic."
The announcement
of the agreement was made in Las Vegas.

of the Day - Going, Going, Gone...
According
to the Christian Science Monitor:
"Tsk.
Tsk. If Jiminy Cricket were a movie critic, he might be wagging
his finger at the makers of today's G-rated motion pictures. Violence?
Sexual innuendo? Cigarette smoking? Jiminy might be asking: What
are these doing in G-rated flicks meant for family audiences?
Industry sources,
including a former official movie-rater, say some scenes slipping
into G-rated films show that Hollywood's highly touted rating
system needs serious repair..."
