Microsoft
Announces "Age of Mythology"
(by digitalmediafx.com) Microsoft has announced development of
a spin off to its popular "Age of Empire" video game
series. The spin off, called "Age of Mythology," puts
plays in mythological times with fantasy creatures and Gods.
"Our
game puts players in those ancient civilizations where praying
for luck in battle, fighting Cyclopes or petitioning Zeus to call
down lightning bolts on the enemy are real occurrences,"
said Bruce Shelley, co-founder and senior game designer for Ensemble
Studios.
"Age
of Mythology" uses the same proprietary engine as "Age
of Empires" and "Age of Kings". This includes,
according to Ensemble, "compelling economic model, a massive
army and battle system, unequaled computer artificial intelligence,
random maps, intuitive gameplay and extreme attention to detail."
"Age
of Mythology" will be shown for the first time in Microsoft's
booth at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles on May
17-19, 2001.

Burger
King Shrek Promotion Begins Today
(by
digitalmediafx.com) Burger King is beginning its Shrek promotions
today, giving out a selection of nine exclusive Candy Caddies
based on Shrek characters, in Big Kids Meal and Kids Meal
orders. Each Candy Caddies will contain SMARTIES candy. In addition,
Burger King will be giving out a selection of 23 humorous "Fairy
Tale Freaks" trading cards, featuring fairy tale misfits
inspired by the movie.
"Shrek
is a clever comedy that will especially appeal to our Big Kids
target market as it celebrates two themes that are synonymous
with our Big Kids brand essence: individuality and irreverence.
We can fully integrate our promotional, food and brand marketing
messages with this movie tie-in," said Richard Taylor, vice
president of marketing for Burger King Corporation.
The Burger
King Shrek promotion will be supported with in-restaurant
merchandising, web-based marketing and national kid-directed television

According to the International Herald Tribune:
"Dr.
Aki Ross, the young female protagonist of "Final Fantasy,"
Columbia Pictures' new science-fiction epic, has the sinewy efficiency
of Sigourney Weaver in "Aliens" and the curves of Julia
Roberts in "Erin Brockovich."
.
But when Aki arrives on movie screens July 11, audiences are as
likely to be struck by the anxious furrows that flit across her
brow and the scattering of moles on her neck..."
