Announces Atlantis DVD Release Date
(by
digitalmediafx.com) Disney has announced, via its Website, that
Atlantis: The Lost Empire will be released to DVD and VHS on January
29, 2002. The DVD will be a special collector's 2-Disc set, however
the feature list seems a little lacking for two discs. Here is
a list of DVD bonus features according to Disney:
"The
History Of Atlantis: The Lost Empire"
Myra Music Video
How To Speak "Atlantean"
Atlantean Alphabet And Dictionary
Audio Commentary By Filmmakers
"In Search Of The Real Atlantis"
Missing are
elements dealing directly with the animation that made past Disney
DVD releases more interesting.

Warner
Bros. Plays Limited Release Game Again
(by digitalmediafx.com) Warner Bros. is again coming under
criticism for playing the "limited release" game with
a popular classic. Earlier this year Warner Bros. dropped the
ball on wide release of Superman despite the massive franchise
and following of the film. After releasing the movie only in San
Antonio, Warner Bros. opted not to allow audiences in other cities
to see the movie and quickly released the special edition to DVD.
Now Warner
Bros. is playing the same game with another classic - Stanley
Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. The move by Warner Bros.
is already being strongly criticized by one of the most popular
film critics around - Roger Ebert. Ebert told Wired magazine,
"It disturbs me that 2001 is not getting a proper national
release. For a while, Warners was even wondering whether to re-release
it at all."
Warner Bros.
is only going to rerelease the classic in potentially four cities
then "make a decision" on a wider release for 2002.

of the Day - Director Gambles on Dream Vision
According to the Chicago Tribune:
"On a
January evening in Park City, Utah, filmmaker Richard Linklater
looked like an open wound about to be exposed to salt water.
Linklater
hadn't unveiled a new movie since his 1998 non-hit of a western,
The Newton Boys, and now he was introducing the experiment
of his professional lifetime: Waking Life, a movie that's
radically non-traditional in both content and form..."
