FX Guru John Chambers Passes Away
(by digitalmediafx.com) One of Hollywood's great makeup FX artists
has passed away. John Chambers, who did work for the original
Planet of the Apes, Spock on the Star Trek series, and numerous
TV shows like The Munsters, The Outer Limits, and Mission Impossible,
died at the age of 78 due to "diabetes complications."
His death occurred on August 25.
Prior to the
1980's (when a makeup category was introduced at the Academy Awards)
only two makeup artists had ever been given honorary awards for
their work. Chambers was one of them. Chambers is also credited
with mastering the ability to make any actor bald using techniques
decades ago that remain a standard today.
